Malaria, an endemic challenge in many African countries, demands innovative solutions. Charities like The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have been at the forefront of this battle, but the evolving resistance of mosquitoes to traditional insecticides poses a new hurdle. As mosquitoes alter their biting habits, and become resistant to insecticides, conventional defences like bed nets and Indoor Residual Spray prove limited. Enter LivFul's Enhanced Insect Repellent (E.I.R.),- a game-changer backed by a ground-breaking study recently conducted by Merck Group in Ghana.
In the relentless fight against malaria, where conventional methods are facing challenges, LivFul's E.I.R. steps in as a beacon of hope. Unlike many repellents that fall short on efficacy and user experience, LivFul’s repellent boasts a patented technology, STAYTEC™, designed to ensure a controlled release of the active ingredient, IR3535® from Merck(3), while limiting absorption into the skin, so that the repellent stays where it should be. Its efficacy has previously been proven in arm-in-cage tests to last for up to 14 hours against mosquitoes(1).
Breaking the Mold
Traditional repellents often leave users with an unpleasant feeling – sticky, oily, and with an overpowering scent. STAYTEC™ E.I.R., however, provides a refreshing departure from the norm. A smooth lotion with an enticing fragrance, it not only keeps mosquitoes at bay but also transforms the user experience. It's the repellent we've all been waiting for - effective, safe, long-lasting, and delightful to use.
A Partnership for Progress
In Ghana, Merck Group conducted a meticulous semi-field efficacy study in a natural setting adhering to WHO standards (2).
The results from the natural habitat study are nothing short of remarkable showing a recorded repellency of 98-100% over the 9-hour period of the trial. During the trial period 84% of the collected mosquitoes were Anopheles gambiae, commonly called the African malaria mosquito. Anopheles gambiae are considered to be one of the world's most important human malaria vectors because of their susceptibility to the Plasmodium parasite, their preference for humans as a host, and their indoor-feeding behavior (4).
LivFul’s Enhanced Insect Repellents, with its 20% formulation of IR3535®(3), not only outperformed other repellents in the duration of protection but also showcased effectiveness against mosquitoes with Pyrethroid resistance. This makes it an effective addition to current control methods like IRS (Indoor Residual Spraying) and bed nets.
